VoIP Solutions Provider Verso Technologies Promotes Steve Langion to Senior Vice President and General Manager of its Softswitch and Access Business Units

By Patrick Barnard, TMCnet Contributing Editor

As part of an organizational restructuring of the company, Verso Technologies (News - Alert), which offers a complete, “core to-edge” suite of next generation network solutions for service providers, has promoted Steve Langion to senior vice president and general manager of the company’s Softswitch and Access Business Units.

Previously Langion served as Verso's senior vice president of engineering.

As senior vice president and general manager of both the Softswitch and Access business units, Langion now represents technologies that have accounted for approximately half of Verso's revenues. Specifically, he will be responsible for managing the company’s VCLEAR VoIP, iMarc, Verilink and I-Master product lines.

Prior to Verso, Langion worked at Bell Labs. Before that he worked for Evolving Systems (News - Alert) Inc., managing the business unit that developed first generation wireless data switching products for Lucent. He later founded a technology company that was acquired by Clarent Corporation. After that acquisition, he became vice president of engineering for Clarent, which Verso acquired in 2003.

Langion holds a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the Polytechnic Institute of New York.

In a press release, Mark Dunaway, president and COO of Verso, said Langion “is one of our hardest working and most skilled senior engineers and management talents.”

“He is also highly regarded in the Softswitch business,” Dunaway said. “Our new organizational structure allows the business unit heads to focus their energy on the processes and procedures necessary to gain scale. Steve will work closely with sales and marketing to deliver the expected results from these two important business units.”

“Verso’s wide array of VoIP switching, access and service assurance products offers carriers the ability to select from pre-integrated, bundled VoIP switching packages or to create unique configurations specifically tailored for their needs by utilizing individual product offerings,” said Langion. “Our VoIP service assurance products are particularly exciting as VoIP deployments become more wide-scale and complex. Devices that monitor, measure, test, and verify service levels will become increasingly critical components of these networks for providers to proactively meet demanding customer expectations.”

Verso made news on TMCnet in February when it announced that it had signed a major reseller agreement with Nortel (News - Alert). As per the agreement, Nortel will be able to sell Verso products throughout the world. In addition, Verso will also be able to offer product installations, support and maintenance for Nortel and its customers, besides other services. With Verso’s Vclear Application Server working with Nortel’s next generation Communication Server 2000 IP softswitch, service providers can deliver pre-paid voice services using Nortel’s WiMAX solution.

Dunaway said the Nortel reseller agreement “is validation of our strategy to partner with the highest quality organizations to serve the emerging WiMAX market.”
