PosTrack Selects Siemens OpenScape Unified Communications Server
By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor
PosTrack Technologies, has selected Siemens (News - Alert) Communications as the backbone for PosTrack’s hosted Voice over IP
(VoIP) services for schools and enterprises.
PosTrack has purchased 10,000 new licenses on Siemens OpenScape Voice application, a scalable native SIP
solution. Also, PosTrack and Siemens are delivering a turn-key open communications solution that eliminates the need for customers to purchase and maintain a VoIP
and unified communications system on their own.
PosTrack is delivering unified communications and mobile capabilities by using Siemens’ OpenScape Voice application (HiPath 8000 application) and HiPath Mobile Connect.
PosTrack has deployed the OpenScape Voice application as its centralized software-based VoIP solution, which forms the basis of its three services: PosTrack Trunking, PosTrack Desktop and PosTrack Mobile.
Leveraging OpenScape Voice application, PosTrack Trunking provides SIP trunking directly to customers’ PBX
systems, while the PosTrack Desktop service extends SIP service to the desktop phone, delivering unified messaging services enabled by the OpenScape Voice application, all at a fixed cost.
PosTrack Mobile leverages the HiPath MobileConnect solution to provide fixed-mobile convenience (FMC). PosTrack’s officials inform that they have already begun rolling out this service to 6,000 students and faculty at a large university, equipping the users with dual-mode
phones.
Officials pointed out that this enables the university to move away from declining landline use, creating a new service embracing their population’s mobile requirements.
“Siemens is a strategic part of our effort to building the future of hosted Unified Communications (News - Alert). Their mature and scalable solution provides the carrier-class reliability our customers require,” said Don Heidrich, CEO at PosTrack Technologies.
He also said that his company’s history of working with universities and schools through our Point-of-Service Division is only enhanced by the “unique services PosTrack can now offer in conjunction with Siemens.”
Dana Rasmussen, president at Siemens Communications, Inc, commented that leveraging the power and the flexibility of the OpenScape Voice and HiPath MobileConnect applications, PosTrack provides its customers with a straightforward, cost-effective path to the benefits of unified communications and FMC, adding “We are excited to be working closely with them to provide these benefits.”
According to PosTrack, recent changes to FCC (News - Alert) regulations have made VoIP services eligible for Universal Services E-rate reimbursement, which makes it cost-effective for schools to meet the needs of their users when deploying unified communications environments.
Earlier this month, Siemens Communications introduced its new unified communications software platform, OpenScape Unified Communications (UC) Server. OpenScape UC Server is designed to remove the artificial legacy barriers between traditionally separate voice, video and unified communications systems to enable a comprehensive suite of UC applications.
This suite currently includes OpenScape Voice Application (HiPath 8000 V3.1 R2, enterprise grade voice and IP least cost routing), OpenScape Video (integrated HD, desktop and client video conferencing) and OpenScape UC Application V3 (role-based UC).
