Telx Exec Discusses New Partnerships, Ethernet Exchange: Interview
By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor
The growth of Ethernet is often described as "unbelievable" for the telecommunications market, driven by the need for speed and the convergence of video and voice.
Nobody can speak to this trend better than Telx, an interconnection and colocation provider in strategic North American markets. The company recently hosted the CBX 2010 event in New York City, where it announced plans to join forces with Neutral Tandem, a provider of tandem interconnection services to wireless, wireline, cable and broadband telephony companies, for its new Telx Ethernet Exchange.
The Telx Ethernet Exchange platform, powered Cisco router and software management technology, is an easier way to connect buyers and sellers of Ethernet services, according to Telx. Service providers can connect their Ethernet networks without going through the time-consuming, costly process of setting up individual, complex interconnection agreements or building out local fiber networks.
To speak about the Telx Ethernet Exchange, as well as partnerships with Neutral Tandem and Cisco, Brad Hokamp, CMO Telx, met up with TMC CEO Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) at the event.
“The big announcement we made – that we entered the Ethernet exchange market – it’s really the natural evolution for the Telx business,” Hokamp said, referring to the fact that offering Ethernet cross connect services is being driven by its customer base.
According to Telx, Neutral Tandem (News - Alert) and Telx plan to connect their key Ethernet Exchange sites, helping customers to seamlessly interconnect their networks without complex, time consuming interconnection agreements, providing greater reach to their end customers. It provides Enterprise and Cloud/SaaS (News - Alert) providers greater network choice and faster interconnections.
So instead of building out your own fiber network, “now you can join the Telx Ethernet Exchange,” he said. “By partnering with Neutral Tandem, now you can have a network with Ethernet exchange locations in 21 places.”
