24/7 Expands Fiber Network to Reach Underserved Markets
By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Phase One of the 24/7 Fiber Network expansion footprint has been completed. The Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area’s high capacity transport and dark fiber network provider announced today that it now offers lit services, from 10GE scalable down to individual customer needs.
This service is provided from the Eastern Shore of Virginia through Salisbury into the Baltimore-D.C. metropolitan region. Along with this new connectivity, 24/7 can access the underserved markets throughout the Delmarva Peninsula.
The company is now offering both dark services and lit services on a new 432-count fiber route that connects the 24/7 Baltimore Metro Network to the College Park, Md. area inside the D.C. beltway. Further expansion into the D.C. area is on the radar for the near future.
24/7 is positioning this expansion as the company’s demonstrated commitment to providing cost-effective, high capacity bandwidth solutions that will connect the Mid Atlantic Region, including Washington D.D. and the Baltimore metro area with the Delmarva Peninsula.
The company has also secured the right-of-ways and has begun engineering the next phase of this expansion. The new network build is expected to connect the same underserved areas from Virginia and Salisbury through Delaware into the Wilmington Metro Region. This route is slated for 4th Quarter 2010 completion and will offer lit and dark services and cell tower backhaul to both carrier and enterprise markets.

“This expansion news further illustrates our commitment to the viability of this region," said Christopher Morris, vice president and COO of 24/7 Fiber Network, in a statement. "This is not speculative growth for its own sake; these builds are customer- driven and supported and we will continue to fill these needs and robustly expand in the area."
24/7’s network can be used by carriers, wireless operators, service providers and network operators throughout the region to interconnection from the company’s main facility located in the carrier hotel at 111 Marketplace in Baltimore.
