Net Optics Intros Xstream Family for Telecom and Data Center Networks
By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor
Net Optics (News - Alert), a provider of network monitoring access solutions, has unveiled its new Xstream line of products, namely Director Xstream and iLink Agg Xstream, which are intelligent 10-gigabit monitoring access solutions ideal for high-performance telecom and data center networks.
Nowadays, telecom and data center networks deliver more services and carry greater amounts of multi-protocol traffic, which mixes voice, video and data simultaneously. In order to handle the heavy traffic load, networks are upgraded to high-speed 10G links.
With this, a need for increased security and tighter regulatory compliance requirements also crop up. Maintaining such network security and performance in this environment leads to monitoring more points in the network. Consequently, monitoring tools are oversubscribed and multiple groups with various responsibilities compete for use of the tools and access points.
“Monitoring access is no longer a luxury, but a network performance and security necessity that must be built in the basic network architecture as a monitoring platform and not a series of disparate point products,” Dennis Carpio, director of product innovation at Net Optics, said.
Officials with Net Optics said that both the new offerings not only helps IT departments to improve network quality of service – by cost-effectively monitoring increasing volume of traffic on 10G network links – but it also increases operational efficiency and reduce Capex of the department.
Available in the fourth quarter 2009, both Director Xstream and iLink Agg Xstream will assist in deployment of an intelligent, flexible and efficient monitoring access platform for 10G networks. Both the offerings allow a pool of 10G and 1G tools to be deployed across a large number of 10G network links, with remote, centralized control.
Featuring in 19” rack mount 1U chassis, both the new Xstream products are available in 10/100/1000 copper or Gig SX and LX and 10G SR and LR. In addition, both the products feature 24 x10 gigabit ports with fully configurable port mapping and have dual power for redundancy. Both are device neutral, which means that they can be used with analyzers or security tools.
Net Optics officials said that the company’s newest offerings not only facilitates organizations to see more traffic with fewer monitoring tools, but also relieves oversubscribed 10G monitoring tools, share tools and data access among groups without contention. Additionally, both the products centralize data monitoring in the network operations center.
Director Xstream has a unique filtering technology called as TapFlow, which allows organizations to select traffic of interest for each tool based on protocols, IP addresses, ports, and VLANs.
“With our new Director and iLink Agg Xstream solutions, we’re providing a monitoring access bridge as our telecom and enterprise customers expand their 10G deployments,” Carpio said. “This will help them ensure the highest levels of performance for business-critical applications and services over their high-bandwidth networks while reducing Capex and Opex burdens from already taxed IT departments.”
