Zayo Group Announces Zayo Colocation Services

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributor

Zayo Group, a provider of bandwidth, voice and managed services, has reportedly launched Zayo Colocation Services - zColo, which will work as an independent business entity specializing in colocation and interconnection services.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Zayo Group, Zayo Colocation Services will offer carrier-neutral colocation and interconnection services. Also, the new entity, as stated, will have control of Zayo Group's recently acquired colocation and interconnection business from FiberNet Telecom Group (News - Alert), Inc., including its extensive presence in the New York and New Jersey metro market.

Dan Caruso, co-founder, president and chief executive officer at Zayo Group said that the company’s focus is providing bandwidth infrastructure for carriers, Internet providers, media companies and bandwidth-intensive enterprises.

"The colocation and interconnects acquired from FiberNet play an essential role in the networks of many of Zayo's strategic customers," said Caruso.

This launch has placed zColo as an exclusive operator of Hudson street location, and offers colocation in 60 Hudson as well as in on 8th Avenue in New York City.

There is also a location on Halsey Street in New Jersey that will offer extensive fiber and copper interconnects. The company is said to have additional facilities in Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles.

Soon the unit will expand its offerings to new buildings and markets, according to company officials.

Back in May 2009, Zayo Group signed a definitive agreement to acquire FiberNet Telecom Group. With this acquisition, roughly half of FiberNet's business became part of Zayo Bandwidth (News - Alert). A majority of the remaining business will now be taken control by Zayo Colocation Services.

"The creation of Zayo Colocation Services allows for single-minded focus on providing customer-friendly, price-competitive, and carrier-neutral services in and between major colocation facilities," said Caruso. "In addition, zColo will provide transparency into the financial performance of our colocation operations for our investors."

Zayo Group currently provides its service over a fiber network that spans 129 markets in 23 states. Zayo Group consists of four complementary business units: Zayo Bandwidth, Zayo Colocation Services, Zayo Enterprise Networks and Onvoy Voice Services.
