Lexent Metro Connect Provides Metro Fiber Connectivity between NY and NJ
By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor
Lexent Metro Connect, a provider of dark fiber networks in the New York metropolitan area, has announced the commencement of construction on an ultra low latency metro fiber ring.
The company made the announcement at its 2009 Telx Customer Business Exchange (CBX) event in Manhattan.
This fiber ring will connect its New York City carrier hotel points-of-presence and other datacenters and collocation facilities which have the offices of key financial exchanges located in Weehawken, North Bergen, Secaucus and Newark, New Jersey.
The company added the fiber ring will be installed by this year end and is expected to provide Lexent customers with sub 100 micro-second latency fiber paths on primary and secondary routes between New York and New Jersey.
The shorter fiber routes offer improved reliability besides low latency. The probability of occurrence of physical fiber faults along the path is less owing to reduced exposure to third-party damage said the company.
The company’s direct fiber routes will help customers in building faster proximity trading systems. The removal of the “fiber variable” helps system architects to use higher layer technologies like optimizing core switching and server components thereby allowing better control of systems induced latency.
“As specialists in designing and implementing custom metro fiber solutions for innovative industries, Lexent is uniquely qualified to address our financial industry customer demands for secure, reliable, high volume connectivity between traders and the markets they trade with using our purpose built dark fiber solutions,” said Ray La Chance, CEO of Lexent Metro Connect.
The company confirmed that it has completed the first phase of the expansion which adds two New Jersey carrier hotels to the on-net building roster. Customers will be able to connect between New Jersey and New York City on Lexent dark fiber via two diverse river crossings.
Lexent Metro Connect specializes in providing enterprise customers and service providers in NY and surrounding areas with custom built, dark fiber optic networks. Lexent owns, operates, builds and maintains its own dark fiber network in-house.
The company allows its customers to leverage an existing dark fiber network as an extension of their own for building a new, dedicated, private fiber network in the city.
It provides direct connectivity to carrier-neutral collocation facilities allowing customers to select network services according to their diverse connectivity needs. Lexent offers connectivity between carrier hotels, central offices and enterprise buildings.
