ITU: UN Agencies push Space technology for emergency communications

Geneva, Mar 11, 2010 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- What: Space Technology for Emergency Communications: Special session of UN Inter-Agency Meeting on Outer Space Activities When: Friday, 12 March 2010, 14:30 CET Where: ITU, Geneva, Switzerland Why: Strengthen cooperation among UN Agencies to facilitate communications during emergencies and natural disasters.


ITU's Radiocommunication Bureau encourages Administrations, national regulatory authorities and disaster relief agencies to use the new database on "Emergency and disaster relief radiocommunication".

Who: Organized by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and hosted by ITU, the 30th Inter-Agency Meeting on Outer Space Activities will set up a dialogue with Member States and UN entities on important space-related developments related to emergency communications in the event of natural disasters.
