Telx, a leading provider of
network-neutral colocation and interconnection services, announced today
that Frontier Communications Corporation (NYSE: FTR) has selected its
Virtual Exchange platform to help expand its access to additional service
providers. Virtual Exchange helps service providers decrease initial
capital expense, improve time to market and lower recurring expense by
providing a way to do multiplexing, Sonet/SDH conversion and cross
connections more efficiently and effectively.
Frontier will use Telx's Virtual Exchange platform to interconnect with new
service providers, thereby adding other carrier options to its current
selection of traditional carriers. Telx's Virtual Exchange's 99.999
percent uptime, 24 x 7 network monitoring and quick, efficient virtual
interconnections will help Frontier continue to grow.
"The Telx Virtual Exchange solution is a value add for Frontier," said
Frontier's Vice President of Carrier Sales and Service Christopher
Eldredge. "Telx's solution lets us demux OCN circuits into DS3, T1s, etc.
without incurring significant space or equipment costs. It is also very
easy to add circuits or new service providers to the platform. It's a
win-win for all involved."
Virtual Exchange from Telx simplifies carrier networks, enabling global
service providers to eliminate the need for additional hubbing, grooming
and conversion equipment. The platform can take low-speed circuits and mux
them into higher speed circuits or demux high-speed circuits into
lower-speed circuits.
It can also perform circuit conversion, for example, taking an SDH signal
and changing it to SONET; map Ethernet circuits to SONET; and provide
software-based cross connections between providers. This lowers the cost of
a service provider's network.
"Virtualization is a trend as the industry tries to be more efficient and
lower costs," said Chris Downie, President of Telx. "By offering the
Virtual Exchange, Telx extends this trend to interconnection and muxing."
